AAF Week 4 Predictions!!

It’s week four folks! There’s lots of questions to be answered this week. Perhaps none more important than this: Will Memphis or Atlanta get its first win this weekend? Let’s see:

San Diego Fleet at Memphis Express:

San Diego is riding high with two big home wins in a row. They have confidence in their QB, and the defense is playing at a high level. On paper, this seems like an easy W for the Fleet. But, Memphis made a change at the QB position last weekend and Zach Mettenberger put up some big second half numbers, and RB Sherman Badie provided a little bit of electricity on the ground as well. All this adds up to the Express getting their first win of the year.

The Prediction: Memphis 22, San Diego 20

Orlando Apollos at Salt Lake City Stallions

Orlando seems to be one of the most complete teams in the AAF. Excellent QB play, efficient running,  and a playmaking defense has the Apollos at the top of most power rankings. There were a few injury scares last game, so that could be a factor for this weekend.

Salt Lake City has a punishing defensive line, led by AAF sack leader Karter Schult. The Stallions earned their first win against a previously undefeated Arizona team, so this weekend’s game really could be a toss up.

Look for Coach Spurrier to utilize a screen game, along with some quick throws to keep Garrett Gilbert clean in the pocket, leading to another Apollos victory.

The Prediction: Orlando 27, Salt Lake 21

San Antonio Commanders at Birmingham Iron

San Antonio had been running the gauntlet over the past three games. A great home debut was followed by a tough loss to Orlando, and a dismantling out in San Diego. Things don’t get any easier for the Commanders on the road this weekend either. They travel to Birmingham to face an Iron team that has allowed the fewest points per game in the AAF this season (7.0). Pairing that with the Iron’s crazed fan base, and you end up with another loss for the Commanders.

The Prediction: Birmingham 26, San Antonio 12

Atlanta Legends at Arizona Hotshots

Poor Atlanta. They have had so many things go wrong to begin this season. Losing a coach and multiple offensive coordinators doesn’t make for an easy start to the season. The only real redeeming quality of this game comes at the expense of the Hotshots. Last weekend Arizona starting QB John Wolford left the game with an injury and his backup did not fare very well. If Wolford cannot play this weekend, the Hotshots will have to rely on their running game to get the ball moving. I think they will be able to do that, keeping Atlanta winless.

The Prediction: Hotshots 30, Atlanta 16
